Designed to replace the aging but still dominant 936, Porsche began the 956 project for Group C racing, boasting a new and improved powerplant as well as a state of the art aerodynamic package.
With a heavily boosted 2.65 liter 6 cylinder turbocharged engine pushing almost 700hp, the 956 dominated the famous Mulsanne straight in Le Mans reaching speeds up to 220mph. In its first outing at Le Mans, the 956 finished 1, 2and 3!
Never in Le Mans history has a race car in its first outing achieved such dominance. This dramatic recreation by Minichamps in 1:18 captures the magic of the 956 that won the 24 hour race in 1982 driven by Ickx/Bell.
