Having reached 201 mph around Fiorano, Ferrari’s test track, the F40 will be remembered as the fastest production car of the 1980s. Unveiled in 1987 to compete against the Porsche 959, the F40 has become the bench-mark and target for other manufacturers, most recently Jaguar and the XJ220. The original price tag of around 160,000 GBP reflected the Formula 1 and endurance racing technology which had produced the 3-litre, bi-turbocharged, 472bhp engine. This is the dream machine!
